The spring carnival of the Australian Jockey Club was continued today at Randwick in fine, warm weather, before ari attendance of 45,000. Due to heavy rain during the weekend the track was sodden, causing the scratching-pen to be freely used and the times in the various races to be slow.

The principal event, the Metropolitan, was decisively won by Regal Son, whose good second to Chatham in the Epsom Handicap on Saturday caused investors to lake him into serious consideration. lie was always prominent in the running and left Hie field at the Leger to win by threo lengths from the favourite Topical, with Oro third. The top-weight Rogilla, fi.S, who won the Spring Stakes on Saturday, could make no impression and finished tired.

The New Zealand horse Inflation, who failed in the Epsom, was considered to be favoured by the soft track and received strong support from his trainer, A. D. Webster, in the Metropolitan, but after showing up in the vanguard to the top of the straight failed to come on, finishing fifth. There was an exciting finish in the Breeders’ Plate, Fashion Star finishing fast to beat Sun Clad, who tired when appearing certain to win. Fashion Star and the third horse, St. Globe, are bolh by Treclare. Another desperate finish in the Centennial Park Handicap saw Aussie’s Delight prevail by half a neclc from J. E. Pike’s mount Loch Garry. Dromos, owned by' Mr E. J. Watt, was third.

Mr Watt had better luck in the next race when his New Zealand-bred colt Waikare, brother to Agrion, won the Grantham Stakes In convincing style. He is trained by G. Price. The Auckland colt, Deputy Ruler, who is in the same stable and who ran second to Hall Mark in the A.J.C. Derby, was one of the horses scratched for this event.

Waikare was the second New Zea-land-bred winner of the day, the first being the Limond mare Golden Gate, who scored a clear-cut victory from Vista and Golden Hair in the Shorts. Vista was ridden by the New Zealand horseman Roy Reed and Golden Hair is .owned by Mr G. F. Moore, of Kai Iwi, Wanganui, so that' the result bore n distinct Dominion Appearance. The Sydney apprentice J. M. O’Sullivan had a very successful day, winning tho Metropolitan on Regal Son and t'he Squatters’ Handicap on Dalmatic, besides running second on Dark Chief in the Grantham Stakes and third on St. Globe in lire Breeders’ Plate. Commencing smartly, Vista showed the way to the half-mile, where Golden Gate ran to the front and led into the straight from Tom Pinch, Vista, Golden Hair and Shakunl. Maintaining her advantage, Golden Gate passed the judge with two and a-half lengths to spare. Time, 1.14 J.

Increasing his lead at the Leger, Sun Clad appeared to have the race won, hut he tired in the final strides, enabling Fashion Star, who came with a fast run wide out, to snatch victory by half a length. Going out of the straight Touchit showed the way to Ramrod, Broad Arrow, Inflation and Regal Son. Passing the mile Touchit increased her lead to three lengths from a hunched field, Oro, Regal Son and Inflation being prominent. Turning for home Broad Arrow and Oro were together, a length -clear of Touchit, Regal Son and Herolage. Racing away from the field at the Leger, Regal Son passed the post with three lengths’ margin. Time, 2.54*.

CENTENNIAL PARK 'HANDICAP. Of £300; 6 fur. AUSSIE’S DELIGHT, J. Miller’s b g, 6yrs, by Australian Sun— Twinling, 8.2 (R. E. Skelton) 1 LOCII GARRY. S. Killick’s br g, aged by Eifacre—Palm Oil, 10.1 (J. E. Pike) 2 DROMOS, E. J. Watt’s b c, 3yrs, by Doric —Sister Vamp, 8.2 (C. Lay-cock) 3 Fifteen started. From an even start Bouyeo raced away and quickly established four lengths’ lead from Aussie’s Delight, Air Queen and Multigris. Passing the Leger, Aussie’s Delight joined Bouyeo, -closely pursued by Dromos and Loch Garry. In a desperate finish Aussie’s Delight secured the verdict by half a neck. Time, I.loi.
