After riding five winners at Doncaster, the jockey Gordon Richards boarded a 10-seater London-bound aeroplane, which crashed in a hedge while taking off. The pilot, Captain George Pennington, was killed. The trainer, Mr Fred Darling, Mrs Hartigan and five other well-known trainers were injured. Richards and another jockey, F. Lane, were slightly injured. The front of the machine was wrecked. ■
