AFGHAN THRONE,
ex-king amanullah
RE-KINDLED AMBITIONS. (From a Correspondent.) LONDON, August 6. Is Amanullah, former King of Afghanistan, who created such a furore when he visited England with his Queen and a wonderful retinue in 1928, and who narrowly escaped with his life when a rebellion drove him from the throne in the followingyear, taking advantage of the turmoil on the North-West Frontier to plot his restoration? Unusual activity has been noticed in the last few weeks at the two villas outside Montreaux, overlooking the Lake of Geneva, where ex-King Amanullah of Afghanistan makes his headquarters for a good part of the year. About a month ago Hie villas, which had been closed for several months, suddenly sprang to life again. One by ono members of the exKing's family and his supporters quietly took up their residence there until both villas were full. Among the arrivals were his son, Prince Ola, and a young nephew, both of whom are known to cherish ambitions regarding the throne of Afghanistan.
