MILITARY BALL.

SUCCESS AT CAMBRIDGE. The second annual military ball organised by the Cambridge volunteers of the Waikato Regiment was held with outstanding success in the Town Hall on Thursday, evening. There was a large attendance, with visitors from all parts of the Waikato and a very picturesque scene was presented with the colourful dresses of the ladies, the uniforms ! of the officers and the more sombre khaki and evening dress of the men. The hall was given a martial appearance with battlements and machine guns bordering the stage, where the orchestra played, dressed in military band style. Mid-stage the regimental colours were suspended, with two larg, aeroplanes floating in the back ground. A huge bunch 'of balloons were suspended in the centre of the hall. The supper room was gaily decorated with streamers and banners in the regimental colours. The tables were artistically arranged with spring flowers by Mrs E. R. Lee and Mrs A. R. Batchelor, while coloured candles i burning all along the tables added L the general effect. The host and hostess were Lieut-enant-Colonel and Mrs R. D. McFarland, of Hamilton, the latter being presented with a bouquet from Cadet Williamson as she entered the hall. With the orchestra playing wellknown war-time marches, the grand march provided a spontaneous commencement to a very enjoyable evening. The music was supplied by the Waikato Regimental Dance Band, under Lieutenant Savage, Mrs T. Worth - ing playing extras. Quarter-Master Sergeant F. H. Green carried out the duties of M.C.
