INTOXICATED MOTORIST.
HAMILTON MAN CHARGED. SUPPRESSION OF NAME. (Special to Times) CAMBRIDGE, Thursday. At the monthly sitting of the Cambridge Magistrate’s Court yesterday before Mr. S. L. Patterson, S.M., a Hamilton business-man/was charged with being drunk in charge of a motor-car at Cambridge on September 11. Accused represented by Mr. W. King, of Hamilton, and pleaded guilty. . The police stated that on the evening of the charge, the defendant, while driving his car along the HamiltonCambridge road collided with a truck, the car being badly damaged. For the defendant Mr. King said this was his first lapse in 20 years of driving experience. Defendant had had a serious Illness and the three brandies he took affected him considerably. As defendant depended entirely upon his motor-car for transport in his business, counsel pleaded that his license be not pouched. He had resided in Hamilton for the past 30 years without a stain on his character. Mr. King also asked for suppression of defendant’s name. The magistrate convicted and fined defendant £5 with costs 14s 6d, and also Prdered suppression of the name.
