THE WOOL INDUSTRY.

IMPROVEMENT IN QUALITY. SIR W. PERRY EXPLAINS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) MASTERTON, Sunday. * In order to clear up any possible misunderstanding of his attitude toward the wool improvement scheme, Sir William Perry has made Ihe following: statement on the subject: ‘ Owing to some statements I made at Masterton in explaining the attitude of the Meat Board toward woo! improvement, and some remarks I probably have made privately on the question, there seems to be some doubt as to my opinion about the wool improvement scheme launched at Palmerston North. The scheme is an excellent one, and if it can he brought into operation should, in capable hands, yield very valuable results. On the oilier hand, with the farmers not Unanimous on the question of a wool levy the Meat Board having some surplus funds, there probably will bo some difficulty in getting the legislation instituting the levy through Parliament.

“No one who lias followed the campaign on this question can have any uncertainty as to my wholehearted support of Hie scheme as a whole. The only xiuestion on which I have had any doubt relates to the means of getting the scheme into operation.”
