NEGLIGENCE ALLEGED.

DEATH OF A PEDESTRIAN. TRAVELLER ON TRIAL. WELLINGTON, Monday. Arthur Haldainond De Lisle, traveller, of Wellington, aged 31, is on trial at the Supreme Court on a charge of negligent driving, thereby causing the death of Alfred Hicks, labourer. Accused pleaded not guilty. The charge is the result of an accident on Hult Road, near Petone, on June 2, when deceased was knocked down by a car driven by De Lisle.

The negligence alleged against accused was that he was under the inlluence of liquor and driving at such an excessive speed that he was unable to pull up in time to avoid deceased.
