'f'he Hon. J. A. Young, Minister of Internal Affairs; is to visit Patea tomorrow, when lie will unveil the memorial to Turk the great Maori navigator, which has been erected by the Maoris on the West Coast.

Mr A. T. Wells, Receiver of the Mental Hospitals Department, Wellington, is in Hamilton on departmental business.

Mr. J. R. Gifford, of Christchurch, has been appointed sub-editor of the Timaru Herald, in succession to Mr. C. E. Hassall. Mr,' Gifford had been employed as assistant sub-editor on the Christchurch Press.

At the annual meeting of the Cambridge Trotting Club last evening, members paid a silent tribute to the club’s late secretary, Mr Waiter Stopford, whose death occurred during the year.

A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr J. Smiilie, manager of I’llo Rangitikci Dairy Company, whose death occurred recently, was carried nt a meeting of the Waikato Winter. Show executive this morning. Mr Smiilie was an exhibitor at the show for many years.
