PEOPLE’S UNIVERSITIES.

CONSTITUTION ADOPTED. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. A well-attended meeting of the New Zealand People’s ‘Universities Association was held In Auokland. The main business was the adoption of the constitution. The ohalrman (Mr H. O. R. Mason, M.P.) referred to the valuable work whloh the N.Z.P.U.A. oould do by way of educating young adults to the right uses of leisure when the residential colleges aimed at by the association had been established. Referring to the marvellous suocess of the People’s Universities, or Folk School Movement, of Denmark, Mr Mason pointed out that New Zealand had adopted the co-operative methods of the Danes wholesale, but had omitted the most Important factor of all —namely, the source and fountain-head of the cooperative spirit—the system of cultural adult education embodied in the Danish Residential People’s High Schools.

The secretary (Mr B. Muller) mentioned that 50 publlo lectures and talks had been delivered on behalf of the association during the last few months.

The following have accepted Invitations to become vice-presidents of the association: Right Rev. Bishop F. E. Bennett, Hon. Sir George Fowlds, Mr H. G. R. Mason, M.P., Mrs M. M. Drenver, J.P., Dr. G. P. O’Shannassey, Mr D. M. Rae, M.A., Mr Georgo Graham, and Mr J. S. Montgomerie. Other officers are: President, Dr. H. Belshaw; treasurer, Mr A. J. Stratford; lion, secretary, .Mr E. J. Bror G. Muller. The Management Committee consists of the officials ex officio and Messrs W. R. KingstonSrnitli, G. Mullenger, G. D. McLean, E. Middleton, E. 0. Williams, Mesdamcs G. Dyson, M. Hurst, Misses A. M. Bentham, 0. Foster; co-opted members, Mrs E. Middleton, Miss B. EgaiT and Mr A. F. E. Stewart.
