MATAMATA NOTES

Late Owen Trownson. The largely-attended funeral of the late Owen J. Trounson, son of Mr and Mrs W. J. Trownson, Matangi, who lost his life through the accidental discharge of a pea rifle, evinced not only the high esteem in which he was held but. a deep and sincere sympathy with the parents in their great loss. Deceased, who was born in Wanganui 2i years ago, came to the Matangi district with his parents in 19,18. He was one of the brightest scholars to pass through the Matangi School, and on entering the Hamilton High School continued to show exceptional promise. On completing his term at the High School he decided to enter the leaching profession, being appointed to the Richmond Road School, Auckland. Subsequently lm passed through the Auckland Training College, and at the time of his death was actively studying for his R.A. degree, having secured leave of absence from I lie Educat ion Board for this purpose, lie was possessed of a bright and happy disposition and was extremely popular with ills clubmates and all who knew him.
