OTOROHANGA.

Winter Conditions. The feeding of forage, and root crops to the flocks and herds, has commenced, and there is abundant provision for the remaining winter months. The Cup Retained. As a result of the draw (6 all) between Otorohanga and Manlapoto last Saturday, Otorohanga (holders) retain possession of the Carlson Cup, 'the Manlapoto challenge for its possession having failed. County Finances.

In June of last year the Otorohanga County Council was in the position of having £3500 on fixed deposit in the Bank of Now Zealand.

To-day this has disappeared, ami the county has an arranged overdraft in the same institution of up to £3OOO. The work of the county is being done out of the overdraft. Default of over £IOO in the payment of the 2s 8d per day for “over Hie fence” relief workers, under Scheme 5, appears as a debit on the book of the county. The Commissioner of Unemployment advised that the present allocation to relief workers is the maximum which can be granted. £57.000 worth of loans. This is estimated to save the county £2OO a year in interest.
