SOMETHING TO INTEREST YOU.

EVERYDAY IN 81AM.

Peter took this extraot from a story Kook published by Wells Gardner Darton and Co., some time ago. Peter does not suppose they dress like that now, but it Is very amusing, and he thought you might like to read it.

“The people of Slam have a custom whioh seems to us curious. They wear different coloured clothes on the different days of the week: On Sunday they wear red, on Monday yellow, on Tuesday pink, on Wednesday green, on Thursday orange, on Friday blue, on Saturday purple. So when they dress In the morning they cannot say, “What clothes shall I wear?" for it is a red day, or a yellow day, and there is no doubt in the matter. The various days of the week are said to have a certain influence on those born on that day, but we never connect them yvith our dresses. Thus we say:— Monday’s child is fair of face. Tuesday’s child is full of grace; Wednesday’s child works hard for Ills living, Thursday’s child is loving and giving, Friday’s child is born for woe, Saturday’s child has far to go; But the child that’s born on the Sabbath Day Is happy and lucky and wise and gay. How strango It would look In London or In any town If all people wore the same colour. I was told of this fact by a Siamese prince, who was then In England, dressed like any English gentleman, and I thought that our clothes must seem very dull to one who was used to these bright colours. —E. M, Green.
