YOUNG COUPLE’S TIFFS,
SEPARATION REFUBED.
MAGISTRATE’S ADVICE. Some useful advice to a young married couple who brought, their matrimonial differences into the Hamilton Magistrate’s Court this morning was offered by Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., in refusing to make orders’for separation, guardianship and maintenance in favour of Mavis Kingston (Mr A. L. Tompkins) against her husband, Allen Alfred Kingston (Mr Colin Taylor). Complainant said she was 18$ years of age and her husband was aged 22 years. They were married In June, 1932, and a child was born this year. In support of her application on the grounds of persistent cruelty and failure to maintain, complainant alleged that Kingston had a very quick temper, and was inattentive and thoughtless. He had objected to the time she spent in attending to the Infant and at 'her parents’ house. She had received only 15s a week for herself and the child. She admitted that defendant had never struck her but he had threatened to do so. He ’had also threatened when in a temper to do away with the baby. He had used bad language and said he would go to saol before paying her maintenance. He had often suggested separation. Albert Ernest Turner, complainant's father, referred to various incidents in which Kingston had displayed an unduly fiery temper. He considered t'he husband had adopted an unreasonable attitude towards his wife. The magistrate said there was no evidence of persistent cruelty or failure to maintain, and he could therefore make no order.
“The parties are young," he added. “They need more experience and more forbearance. It would be better if they 'had some older mutual friend, who was married, to act as a confidant and give them advice. They must learn to humour one another and give and take. Otherwise they will never make a success of marriage."
