RADIATOR STOLEN.
FORMER BORSTAL INMATE.
HARD LABOUR IMPOSED. Released from the Walkerla Borstal Institute on license on November 2, George Clarence Child, labourer, aged 22 years, pleaded guilty in the
Magistrate’s Court this morning before Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., to a oharge of stealing an electric radiator, valued at £2 15s, the property of Clement Parker Buckenham. Constable G. E. Callaghan gave evidence that as the result of a complaint that a heater had been removed from Nawton Hall he recovered a heater in a second-hand shop where it had been sold by the acoused for 7s 6d. When interviewed on June 26 the accused at first denied knowledge of the offenoe, but later admitted stealing the heater within the past week. Corroborative evidence was given by Constable F. N. Aplin.
Senior-Sergeant Power told the magistrate that Child had a list of previous convictions and was out on license from Waikeria. Sentence of six months’ imprisonment with hard labour was imposed.
