LATEST RETURNS,
INCREASE IN NET EARNINGS.
WELLINGTON, Thursday. The abstract of the railway working account for the four-weekly period ended May 27 gives details supplementing the preliminary statement made by the chairman of the board on June 15. An inorease In net earnings of £367 is shown oompared with the corresponding period last year. The exoess of revenue was £79,199, compared with £78,832. The gross revenue was £484,082, which is £934 less than last year, while expenses totalled £404,883, a decrease of £l3Ol. The operating profit on the North Island railways was £IB,OIO, or £6702 less than last year, while that in the South Island increased by £10,628 to £39,110. In the North Island revenue decreased by £11,683 to £234,490, and expenses by £4981 to £216,480. In the South Island the revenue of £200,496 was higher by £12,230, while expenses increased by £1692. Net revenue from other than railway services was £22,079, or £3559 less than last year. The gross revenue was £49,096, and the expenditure £27,017. The net revenue for the two periods this year was £188,863, compared with £181,509 last year, an increase of £7354. The gross revenue was £976,561, a decline of £31,218, while the working expenses were £787,698, or £38,572 less than in 1932.
