UNEMPLOYED RETURNED SOLDIERS

(To the Editor.) Sir, —in your issue of the 28 th inst., I read with interest the reply given by the Waikato Returned Soldiers’ Association executive to Mr C. Ensor in regard to his gardening scheme for unemployed returned soldiers, and they are to he congratulated on the same. Most of the unemployed returned men cultivate their gardens and produce enough vegetables for the needs of their families, and if this scheme were put into operation it would be a farce. All I have spoken to about the soheme are very much against it and consider that the local branch of the R.S.A. is doing splendid work with the money at their disposal in helping to relieve the distress amongst the unemployed returned men. I am sure their effort Is greatly appreciated by all and I trust and hope they will continue to give assistance as they have done Jn the past. I would like to ask Mr Ensor how many of the Hamilton returned soldiers he represents in asking for this garden scheme to be put in operation. It is only fair that every one should say whether he Is in favour of this or not before allowing any one to commit them to a soheme that they do not agree with. My advice to all unemployed returned soldiers, now that they can pay their contributions by small monthly instalments, is to join up with the local branoh of the R.S.A., whereby they would be helping their demands for better treatment of all returned men and the widows of their fallen comrades. There is only room in the Dominion for one organisation of returned men, and that must be the Returned Soldiers’ Association.—l am, etc., UNEMPLOYED RETURNED SOLDIER. Hamilton, ' June 29, 1933.
