INDIGNANT COUNCILLOR.
CITIZENS’ BODY CHALLENGED. WRIT FOR LIBEL HINTED AT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. A vigorous denunciation of tho Christchurch Citizens’ Association and a challenge to the chairman of the association to issue itis allegations in such a form that they could be tested in the Supreme Court on- a writ for libel, were made by the deputyMayor, Rev. J. K. Archer, at a meeting of the council last night during a lively discussion. In indignant terms Mr. Archer, who is one of four Labour candidates into whose electoral qualifications an enquiry is sought, charged the Citizens’ Association with hypocrisy and extreme political partisanship. He de-: clared that a letter which it addressed to the council was "an expression of hatred against the Labour Party and against all those who support Hie Labour Party.” At the suggestion of the Mayor, Mr. Sullivan, the letter and matters relating to it were referred to the bylaws and finance committee for submission to the City Solicitor.
