TE RAPA CANDIDATES.
WORK AT ELLERBLIE.
THESPIS SCHOOLS WELL.

AUCKLAND, Thursday,
TfTere was some interesting work at Elierslie this morning when candidates for the Te Kuitt gathering were allotted serviceable tasks on the No. 3 grass. Gay Broney and Mahkill recorded the best five furlong task of the morning, coming home in 1.4 2-5. Gay Broney was going well throughout. There was little between Taneriri and Searcher at the end of six furlongs in 1.18 4-5. Imamint hit out freely over five furlongs, beating Notamint home in 1.6.
'Gold Money, Gay Marigold and Supreme Rhler were bunched at th'e conclusion of a bright half-mile effort run in 51 1-5. Sir Val was not extended over half-a-mile in 565.
Manawhenua and Tahae Mea got to the end of five furlongs in 1.7 2-5. Thespis was brought over from Takanini and schooled over four hurdles on the course proper. Thespis gave a good display, finishing in front of Catoma, Wee Pat and Tetrarchate.
United, who had a slight advantage at the start, was a shad! in front of Chief Cook and Tarporley at the end of five furlongs run in 1.5 2-5. Prince of Orange gave a satisfactory display over a bout of six hurdles in the centre of the course proper. Work at Takanini.
Holly Lu finished in front of Greek Gold at the end of five furlongs run in the excellent time of 1.3. Greek Gold was conceding a good deal of weight to his companion.
Speedmlnt and Royal Artist strode to the five furlong peg and came home In 1.5, both going well. Kind Words and Bugle Call covered a similar distance in 1.7 1-5 and could have improved on their time.
The Hiker and Regardez gave a commendable display over three hurdles but the latter came to grief at the fourth.
True Blood and Prinoipal were allotted a similar task and gave a satisfactory exhibition. The following horses will leave on Friday for Te Rapa:—Speedmlnt, Royal Artist, Diversion, The Hiker, True Blood, Kind Words, Musqull, Regardez, Principal, Holly Lu, Thespis.
