TE AWAMUTU BOROUGH.

MEETING OF COUNOIL...

. The first meeting of the newlyelected Te Awamutu Borough Council was held last evening when the Mayor, Mr C. G. Downes presided and there were also present Crs 11. C. Rainey, T. Mclnnes, A. Brown, F. J. Gilbert, W. MeCready, J. Langmuir, W. G. Savlll. The Waikato Hospital Board forwarded its estimates for the ensuing year, which showed the borough would have to find £4 52 3s 3d this year, an increase of £l3 12s 3d. The secretary of the Te Awamutu Fire Board advised that it might be possible to get the services of a water supply expert from Auckland, provided that the council was considering the question of improving its water supply.—,The Mayor pointed out that the pressure was of more importance than the quantity of water. It was decided to apply to the underwriters accordingly.

Requests from Ratepayers,

Ten ratepayers of Leith and Goodfellow Streets petitioned to have something done to improve the condition of those streets, which at present were in a very unsatisfactory condition. —Referred to Works Committee.

Five ratepayers of Raeburn Street also made a similar request.—Referred to Works Committee.

The Waipa County Council advised that the Rangiaohia No. 1 loan has matured and therefore the annual contribution will not be required any longer. Some consideration was given to The suggested purchase of another motor truck for the use of the borough staff. The matter was referred lo the Finance Committee.

It was decided that the Borough Council attend divine service at St. John’s Anglican Church, on Sunday, June 4. A complete tour of the borough will be made by the Council on Friday, May 19.

The Domain Board.

Sitting as the Domain Board, the annual report showed that the parks had been well maintained, and the accounts had closed with a credit balance of £24 8s 4d, with a total expenditure of over £2OO. During the coming year it was hoped to lay down new' croquet lawns and bowling greens Jn Victoria Park.
