RENEWAL OF LIOENBEB.

CONSIDERATION BY AUTHORITY.

SEVERAL APPLICATIONS GRANTED

Applications for renewal of passenger service licenses were considered by the No. 3 District Licensing Authority at a sitting which opened in Hamilton to-day . Mr E. L. Walton presided, and associated with him were Messrs J. G. Gliff-McCul-loch and F. J. Farrell. Messrs. Pulham and Begbie, Limited, sought permission to conduct a continuous passenger service from Taniwha Post Office to Te Kauwhata. There was no opposition to the application, and the license was approved, with the proviso that children under three years should he carried free, and over three and not exceeding 12 years, at half-lares. This was stated by Mr Walton to be the general policy of the authority. The application of W. J. Stanley for renewal of his continuous passenger service license for his Mata-mata-Tauranga service was granted, with reductions in fares requested by the applicant, and subject to the same provisions regarding charges for children as applied to the first application.

To Akau to Ngaruawahla.

A license to run a continuous passenger service between Te Alcau and Ngaruawahla was sought by M. T. MacDonald. It was mentioned that the vehicle to be used was a lorry, which carted cream and mail. Passengers had been carried for a number of years. The application was granted. The renewal of S. J. Phillips’ license for a passenger service between Kalhere and Morrlnsville was deferred pending further information regarding the fares to be charged. The conditions prevailing in the mining area were the principal reasons advanced by W. T. Bond in asking for authority to vary the running of.his lluntly-Renown service. Consideration of the application was adjourned to enable the applicant to produce a written statement covering the amendments requested.

Mr J. P. Porter, of Te Mata, made application for a renewal of his Te Mata-Hamilton passenger license. He was represented by Mr. W. Tanner, who explained the nature of the service; No opposition was forthcoming, and the license was granted. Te Aroha to Frankton. J. Robson and Sons’ application for the renewal of their Te Aroha-Frank-ton passenger service license was approved, subject to the fares previously mentioned being charged for children carried as ordinary passengers. Matamata to Okaula Springs.

The application of R. S. Beamish for renewal of his seasonal passenger license from Matamata .to Okauia Springs was granted.

An amendment to run a week-end trip during March was also approved with the following amendment to fares:—Children under three years, free, and not exceeding 12 years at half-fares.

Buses Limited made application for a renewal of the continuous passenger service license between Huntly and Hamilton. Evidence In support of the application was given by residents living in the Huntly district. The licence was renewed but an amendment, to Increase the number of vehicles for maintenance purposes was granted.
