Thomas Francis Clark (33), labourer, who was ohargod with the murder of Mrs Bennett at Papatoetoe, but was found guilty of manslaughter, was sentenced to-day by Mr Justice Smith.

His Honour said the Jury must have taken the view that there was a contract of marriage between aocused and Mrs Bennett, also that when he looked into a bedroom and saw her sharing a bed with another man he lost power of oontrol and committed the aot In a fit of passion. However, human life must not be taken In that way.

He regarded the offenoe as

very serious, and the sentence of

the Court would be Imprisonment T with hard labour for fifteen years.
