WELLINGTON, Monday,

“ I think this is the best side you have had in New Zealand from the universities of Australia,” remarked Mr. J. P. Gunther, the manager of the Australian Universities’ Rugby football team. “ Sydney University are winners of the knock-out competition this season, and of the winning team, there are 10 players among those who have come to New Zealand. The touring team is particularly strong In forwards, as well as in Inside backs.” Mr. Gunther mentioned that the Rugby Union game was making splendid headway In the universities, all of which had now taken up the game. Perth, Adelaide and Hobart had 6ome into line with Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.

AUCKLAND, Tuesday

The Australian team will open Us New Zealand tour to-morrow with a match against Auckland University at Eden Park. Another game will he played here on Saturday, this being the first test match against the New Zealand University team. The Auckland team to meet the visitors is as follows:—Fullback, Bush, three - quarters, Milllken, Caughey, Kedgley, five-eighths, Muivihill, Green, halfback, Me Kearney, forwards, McVeagh, Thomas, Anderson, Colgari, Stacey, Sherwood, Wood, Robinson, Sutherland (one to be omitted).
