TE KUITI MEETING.

FINE FIELDS ENGAGED.

FIFTEEN IN PRESIDENT’S

Splendid acceptances have been received for the opening day of the Te Kuiti Racing .Club’s annual meeting to be held at Te Rapa on May 20 (Saturday) and 22 (Monday). The fine field of 23 jumpers have entered for the Kopakl Hurdles, while no less than 33 maidens have accepted for the Maiden Handicap. Seven useful ’chasers will contest the cross-coun-try event. The principal flat event, the President’s Handicap has attracted the splendid field of fifteen and the quality of the horses engaged here should ensure a fine contest. The T,e Kuiti Hurdles has drawn nine useful jumpers and the Stewards’ Handicap 13 well performed sprinters. The hack classes have filled exceedingly well, 23 having accepted for the Otorohanga and 15 for the Rangitoto.

Following are the acceptances:' —

KOPAKI HURDLES Of £100; 1$ miles.

GANPAT NOT A STARTER. WANGANUI, Monday. Ganpat will not he a starter in the Century Hurdles at the Wanganui meeting on Thursday, his owner having intimated to-night his intention Of scratching him Lo-nTOrrow morning. So far as can be gathered there is nothing amiss witli Ganpat, but he is unlikely to fulfil any Wanganui engagements. HORSES FOR AUSTRALIA. INVERCAR'GILL, Monday. Mr W. T. Hazlett’s eight horses, Ruling Light, Shining Gold, Gold Ray, Irish Chieftain, Paris and the two-year-olds Sir Simper, Dazzling Raid and kindly Light, were shipped from Bluff to Melbourne to-day. The horses are to be raced In Melbourne, and, if circumstances warrant, will go on lo Sydney.

'The plans provide for the learn being in Australia for seven months at least. F. .1. McKay is in charge of the team.

Mr Hazlell was farcwcllcd by the stewards of the Southland Racing Club after the final race at the club’s meeting on Saturday.

MISHAP TO JAYSON

Mr C. T. Kecble's jumper Jayson stifled himself while contesting the Adamson Handicap at ilawera and it is now very doubtful wliethe" he will he brought to Kllerslie to keep his engagements at the Auckland Racing Club’s Wilder Meeting. His stablemate, Beacon Fire, however, is making good progress and is expected to he on hand to compete at Ellcu'slie.

TE RAPA ACTIVITY. TE KUITI CANDIDATES PREPARE. SOME GOOD WORK RECORDED. Some interesting work was recorded at Te Rapa this morning when local candidates with engagements at the Te Kuiti gathering were sent along on the No. 1 grass. The jumping division was also alloted some useful work. Tradesman, an open sprint entry for Saturday, was sent along easily but was not after time. Riley's charge looks in tine fettle for his coming engagement. Prolyxo (C. Goulsbro) had Welcome Lu (J.* Day) as a companion over a useful live furlong effort which was negotiated in 1.5. Prolyxo who had the measure of the local filly at the end, appears in great heart for her Saturday’s sprint engagement. Limex (H. Long) and Beau Irish (J. Day) were associated over live furlongs In i. 7 3-5. Limex was going the better of the pah at the conclusion of the task, and-will only'need to reproduce her Avondale brilliancy, to be a tough proposition if started on the second day of the appraching meeting.

Twenty-four Carat strode freely over five furlongs in 1.7. J. F. Tutchen’s charge Is a maiden entry for Saturday but will need to Improve considerably on Pukekche form to provide solid opposition in the large field engaged.

A Promising Effort.

Chang (Heka) and Wiltshire (H. Long) were responsible for a promising trial over a round. They negotiated the first half-mile in 525, five furlongs in 1.5 and the full distance In 2m. It was a good effort and one Indicative of a forward showing on the part of the pair in their approaching engagements. Valpai encompassed a round of so)ld pace work and came home fast from the three furlong peg.

Cawan (Mclnally) was also given useful work.

IKahau (G. Connor) and Sinking Fund (T. Green) were associated over five furlongs whioh occupied 1.7 3-5. Sinking Fund was in front at the finish and easing up. King Ford went off from the six furlong peg and had to be bustled to cover the final five furlongs in 1.6. With the Jumpers. Ruby Meteor (R. E. Thomson) had the measure of Te* Kola (J. Mcßae) over a bout of four hurdles. Both •gave a pleasing display and handled their fences creditably throughout. Cargen (G. Carmont) negotiated two fences in the straight. Cruachan (J. Smith) who is entered for the Te Kuiti Hurdles gave a sound display over a round of fences. Considerable interest was shown In the schooling of High Commisioner (Thomson), Wilton (Smith) and Balmeanach (Day). But for the fact that Balmeanach nearly came down at the last obstacle which Wilton also tipped, the trio gave a highly creditable exhibition. High Commissioner, however, disappointed a little after his prior displays, and had to be kept at It over the final bit to hold off Wilton who appears to' be Improving with every effort over the sticks. Norval Tea, who is now In A. Jaokson’s oharge, handled a oouple of pony fences at the back In commendable style. Riding Engagement©. Additional riding engagements announced are:— W. J. McDowell: Prolyxo. G. Connor': King Ford, Book Law. Mclnally:'Eager Rose, Silver Wattle, Beryl Latour, British Columbia.
