WAIKATO ASSOCIATION.

ACTION ORITICISED. (Special to Times.) MATAMATA, Monday. Disappointment at the action of the Waikato Tennis Association in not consulting local officials before forwarding nominations for the New Zealand Junior Championships has been expressed by prominent officials of the Wlakato East Association, who pointed out that the performance of Miss Margaret Beverley In winning the New Zealand Junior Championship was outstanding, but was not unexpected by those who knew her form. Yet Miss Beverley had not been nominated by Waikato until It was asked to do so. Two other young players In the Waikato East Association are up to junior championship form, but were overlooked. Miss Stewart, of Te Whetu, and Miss Kirk, of Kiwltahi, have the big match temperament, and are capable performers. Miss Stewat won the open championship at the Pukekohe Easter. Tournament, In which she defeated Miss Bishop In the final.' Miss Kirk is another outstanding player who proved her ability by winning the handicap singles at the Waikato East Tournament at New Year, defeating Miss N. Beverley in the final.

The opinion was expressed that it was a pity that more co-operation had not been shown, and the claims of the country players overlooked by the parent body. Miss Margaret Beverley played regularly last season in Waikato East matches, and with her sister, Miss N. Beverley, played consistently well In doubles. Residents of Matamata and district are proud of their 14-year-old champion, and heartiest congratulations are being extended to her.
