SCIENTIST’S IDEALS
NOT ENOUGH WORK. SHORTER HOURS ADVOCATED. Speaking on the “Ideals of Scientist," to Legacy Club inembc. at Sydney, Professor VonwJller, sa: that the administrators had not bee& able to keep pace with the changes conditions of the world. As a result there was not enough work to go round. This condition was due to selfishness in the handling of inventions. "Somebody, at a recent meeting in Sydney,” said the professor, “suggested that scientists ought to be put in charge of the country. “If this is done, then God help the country* (Laughter). “However, I think that scientists could be used more, and progress might be made if governments were composed less of judges and advocates,. as they are to-day. “If our affairs were properly managed, a 30-hour week would probably provide a full amount of work, but, if it were introduced under existing conditions, the whole world would break down," he added.
