CHAMBER OF COMMERCE,
MONTHLY TEA MEETING. AT CAMBRIDGE. The Cambridge Chamber of Commerce commenced its winter series of tea-meetings last evening, when the president, Mr S. L. Vale, presided. The matter of organising schemes ti> raise money for the alleviation of distress among the unemployed was introduced by the president, who quoted some of the cases of hardships in the district. Mr 11. Alan Bell, representative on the Hospital Board, spoke of the immediate need for the provision of clothing and boots for the men. Mr Edgar James moved that the meeting should appoint a committee to formulate schemes to raise money by which the could be provided with additional work through the local bodies. —The motion was carried. Mr Vale said the men did not want charily, but were prepared to work for any benefits received. It was decided that the executive of the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce co-operate with the local Relief Committee, which operated last year, and arrange schemes for the raising of funds.
