MEETING OF COMPANIES.
AT AUCKLAND TO-DAY.
POSITION OF RENOWN COMPANY.
AUCKLAND, Thursday
It has been decided to hold a rneeting to-day of the companies concerned in the dispute which has rendered several collieries idle.
The meeting will be under the auspices of the Northern New Zealand Coal Mine Owners’ Association, and invitations to attend have been extended to the Glen Afton, Taupiri, Pukemiro, Renown and Hikurangi Companies. Mr T. 0. Bishop, secretary of the New Zealand Coal Mine Owners’ Association, arrived, from Wellington this morning to attend the meeting.
It was explained yesterday that the rules of the Coal Mine Owners’ Association allowed that organisation to deal with general questions affecting the industry, particularly the fixing of agreements, but prohibited the association from discussing prices.
The directors of Renown Collieries, Limited, met yesterday. Interviewed subsequently, Mr H. R. Mackenzie, chairman of directors, said his company would he represented at the meeting and he understood the other companies would attend.
“There has been no change in the position,” he added. “Our notice asking the men to accept a postponement of 20 per cent of their wages during the p'eriod of the coal ‘war’ still stands.”

Meetings of miners were held at Renown, Glen Afton, Rotowaro and Iluntly to-day.
The men still Insist that the owners must come to a settlement before they resume work.
Reports that a conference of mineowners would be held in Auckland tomorrow have been received with pleasure. 1
