yALUES AT FRANKTON. FAT LAMBS SHOW IMPROVEMENT. PIG QUOTATIONS DECLINE.. An average yarding of fat sheep oame forward at the Frankton stock sale yesterday and values generally were on a par with late rates. There was little alteration in prices for wethers and ewes, hut fat lamhs showed a slight improvement on the previous sale. A moderate entry of fat cattle was penned, and here again late rates prevailed for ox beef, with choice cow and heifer beef a shade firmer. The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd., report:—At the weekly stock sale in the Frankton yards on Wednesday, we had a heavy varding of all classes of fat -sheep, with a medium yarding of store wethers and in-lamb ewes. There was good competition for all fat ewes, and last week’s advanced prices were / fully maintained. Better quality fat wethers were penned, with prices on a par with last week. Lambs also came forward in full numbers, and sold at slightly better than freezing rates. Store sheep maintained late quotations. Cattle: An average yarding of ox beef, with good quality selling at equal to late rates. Cow and heifer beef of good quality came forward in smaller numbers, and prices remained very firm, while second quality remained unchanged. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company Limited, Hamilton, report on their weekly Frankton stock sale yesterday:— Cattle. —Supplies of both ox and cow beef were about average, the quality of the majority of the cow beef being particularly good. While ox beef met with a dull market and prices decreased decidedly, cow beef was keenly sought after and all classes realised prices appreciably in advance of last week’s quotations. The store cow pens were practically empty, and for those yarded there was no alteration on late rates. Sheep.—A decrease in values for both ewes and wethers was largely due to a heavier supply. Lamb prices improved substantially, although a heavy yarding came forward. Pigs.—There was a large yarding of both fat and store pigs, both classes showing a decrease on last week’s prices. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having held their usual weekly stock sale on Wednesday, as under: Fat sheep: An average yarding of fat ewes and wethers sold at late rates, but lambs were a shade higher. Prime wethers made 14s 4d; fat wethers 13s to 14s; young fat ewes to 10-s 3d; ordinary fat ewes 8s to-9s; fat lambs sold at from 11s to 12s 6d. Fat Cattle: A moderate yarding. The ox beef yarded was only of moderate quality generally, and prices were again a shade lower. Extra prime young cows and heifers sold at £3 4s to £4 10s; ordinary fat bows, £2 to £3 2s; inferior fat cows, 30s to 40s. Store Cattle: A. small yarding.
