WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

GORDONTON BRANCH. The April meeting was held in tha grounds at “Woodlands," the day being beautifully tine. There was c good attendance of members and much business was attended to. It was with much regret that the news of cur president’s removal to Hamilton was received. Mrs Fow has been a very keen member and has done a great deal to further the movement in Gordonton. Fortunately' she will still be our member, although unable to attend the meetings so frequently. Airs Bridgman was elected as new member for the committee. A most interesting lecture was given by Dr. Court, who was then visiting Hamilton. She spoke chiefly on tile control of the mind over the body in times of illness and health, and tho dangers we experience by r over-eating. She also gave a correct diet for maintaining health and some useful hints on diet and exercise for slimming. Her lecture was- greatiy e'njoyed and ap-

preciated by all present. Afternoon tea was served on the lawn, the hostesses being Mesdames J. Dalbeth, Edwards, Frear, Findlay and Allss Cain. I The gardening circle met this month at the home of Airs P. Thompson, when it was decided to give special attention to the culture of certain flowers for the district court’s display in the November Show. Mrs Cleland distributed various seeds, Airs Saxton seedlings, while considerable interest was shown In Mrs D. Salnsbury’s seedling dahlias. It was decided to buy enough seed of 'the best types of marigolds (our emblem) to distribute to Institute members, a competition to be held for the best bower grown. Afternoon tea was served In the garden.
