MATANGI ANGLICANS.
YEAR OF ACHIEVEMENT* t ' ' j ' BUILDING OF NEW CHURCH. Thfii’6 was a good attendance at the annual meeting of Matangi Anglican parishioners last evening. The Bishop of Waikato presided. In his annual report the church warden (Mr L. V. Judd) said they could all feel highly gratified at the result of the year’s operations. However, a gloom on the church activities had been cast by' the death of Mr Johns, who had , constantly attended services and given Valuable assistance towards functions for raising fundß. There had been 21 servioos, iji the hall, the average attendance being 20, and seven services in the church, with an average attendance of 49. There were 43 at the consecration service. The communions numbered 355. At tile last annual meeting, added Mr JUdd, a resolution was passed authorising the preparation of plans for a church to serve the district. At the time no one thought that it would be possible to have such a fine building as stood to-day—fully equipped and free of encumbrances. They could congratulate themselves on such a line achievement. Mr Judd paid a warm tribute to the architect and contractors and referred to the interior of the church, which had been made beautiful by many handsome gifts. Among the various church activities which had been well attended and in which keen interest was displayed were the ladies’ social afternoons, the children’s fancy dress ball and the flower show. •
Concluding, Mr Judd expressed appreciation of the services of the altar committee, the finance committee and the committee which line! charge of the consecration preparations. The financial statement .showed that after alt expenses had been paid there was a credit balance of £0 -is Gd.
The Bishop congratulated the parishioners on their fine , achievement and expressed the hope that the Malang! Church would prove a strong, spiritual force in the district and an inspiration to all.
The following officers were elected for Ihe year:—Vicar’s warden, Mr.*.l. 11. Taylor: people’s warden, Mr. L. V. Judd; committee, Messrs. C. 11. Duns ford, .1. M. llanslcad, W. Martini, E. l’uwson, W. A. Tomlinson.
