1933 Waikato Winter Show TO BE HELD AT HAMILTON, WAIKATO May The following pages contain the OFFICIAL SCHEDULE and PRIZE LIST of the Horticultural, Apicultural and Fruit Home Industries, Needlework and Cookery Sections Also the Elocutionary, Vocal, Instrumental, and Dancing Competitions The Brightest Spot in New Zealand CHE WAIKATO WINTER SHOW is a national event proclaiming the fertility of the land, the development on scientific lines of the great dairying industry, the confidence of the producers that shines through the financial fog and the organising genius of a body of Waikato people, who through the comparatively short period of 26 years, have built up a dairy exhibition that ranks with the most important of its kind in the world. The total number of entries in the dairy produce classes exceeds the record of the London Dairy Show. International competition may be lacking, but, nevertheless, the general quality of the exhibits challenges the world. The show, however, is more than an exhibition of dairy and agricultural produce. It is a popular agricultural university at which men and women keep abreast of scientific and technical progress. It is a great social function from which every individual derives pleasure and inspiration. Never had this show greater value to the community than in this time of depression when hard-pressed men are liable to lose their sense of proportion and allow a feeling of hopelessness to crush the spirit of enterprise and initiative which is essential to individual and national rehabilitation The whole atmosphere of the exhibition propagates cheerful courage and confidence. Those of the younger generations rub shoulders with those who pioneered in the days of small things and remember the depression of the ’nineties from which they survived. ’ The elderly who are inclined to pessimism and gloom receive new stimulus from contact with their progressive, juniors, who are awake to the advantages modern appliances offer. It is an occasion when “ each strengthens each and all encourage all.” None can escape infection through the cheer germ ” that pervades the great gathering. In spite of the depression there is every reason to anticipate new show records, and to predict that Hamilton will again be able to congratulate itself after the final reckoning. WM. H. PAUL, Box 91 v Hamilton Secretary. aaMaiaiaiiaiiaagEßii Bigger Brighter^—Better than ever
