Before a commencement can be made in solving this competition it is necessary to fill up the 72 empty squares with the CORRECT letters. To find these 72 missing letters is simple. The 72 firms advertising on this page are each displaying in their windows one letter and the number of the square in which to insert it. When all the squares have been filled in competitors have a very interesting competition before them. The letters required to form any name (or word) must appear in squares next to each other (no jumping permitted) and should two similar letters be used in the spelling of a name (or word) that particular letter must be discovered in two different squares, i.e. no letter may be used more than once in the formation of any name (or word) as example:— CHECKER—Correct 79, 88 87, 96, 106, 97, 98. Incorrect: 79, 88, 97, 96, 106, 97, 98. All letters may be used as often as required in order to form additional names (or words). When a name (or word) has been discovered, competitors should write down that name (or word) on a sheet of paper. Alongside that name (or word) must be written the numbers of the squares in which the letters, forming that name (or word) are discovered (as above example). * In order to eliminate the possibility of the pnze-money being divided into small amounts each competitor is asked, when forwarding their entry, to attach a second entry giving the names of additional Hamilton shopkeepers and titles of Hamilton business firms which, by the same means, can be discovered. The winner will be given an order (or orders) to the value of £5, which must he spent with one or more of the 72 firms advertising on this page. * ENTRIES CLOSE JUNE 30, 1933. —Address your entries to the ADVERTISING MANAGER, WAIKATO TIMEB, P.O. Box 156 Hamilton, marked “SQUARE COMPETITION” in left hand corner of envelope. Winner's name will be published Saturday July 8, 1933. (Extra copies of this page can be prooured from any of the advertisers.)
