The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated April 22, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: — Tallow. —An auction will be held on April 26. The market is quiet and steady, with no material change in values.

Hemp.--The Manila market remains quiet, but firm. Sellers quote “K" grade .for April-June shipment £ls. 10s. May-July shipment sold at £l4 10s. Output from January 1 to April 18 was 325,000 bales, against 308,000 for the same period last year. Stocks in the United Kingdom at March 31 were 12,092 bales, against 24,482 bales at the same time last year. Stocks in Manila at April 18 wove 139,000 bales, against 96,000 at the same time last year. The sisal market is steady and Inclined to be firmer. No. 1 for March-May shipment sold at £ls, for June August shipment at £ls ss. The New Zealand market is quiet and easier, with no fl-st-hand sales reported. Stocks in London at March 31 were 61 tons, against 31 tons at the same time last year. Fruit.—At present there is a better demand for all sound varieties at bst ■ ter prices, but the market is weak for Cox’s Orange owing to the condition of the Otin and Port Wellington consignments, which are now practically cleared, with the balance of was’.y end large’fruit selling at low prices The Port Victor Cox's Orange wenagain wasly and pitted. Average of sales to date ■ — Comice, trays 3s 3d, halves 5s od, boxes, 14s 6d; Beurre Bose, Lays 6s 3d, three-quarters,, 12s, boxes 14s; Packham’s Triumph, trays 5s 3d, three-quarters 11s 6d, boxes, some inferior, 12s; Conference, trays ss, boxes 10s 9d; Beurre Clairgeau, trays 3s 6d, boxes 9s; Winter Cole; trays 4s 9d, three-quarters 10s, boxes 11s 9d. The Rotorua is now discharging and looks to be the best ship as yet Xor oondltion of fruit.
