RELIEF FUNDS.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT. QUARTERLY INFORMATION URGED. The suggestion that the Unemployment Board should issue at least quarterly a statement showing the ilnancial position of ttie hoard, the amount available for distribution, the amount distributed, where and how distributed, the balance, if any, in hand, estimated amount collectible during the balance of the Ilnancial year, and such information as was necessary to keep the local authorities fully informed as to Hie fund, was received by the Borough Council last evening from the Greymouth Borough Council. It was thought that by obtaining and publishing the suggested statement much would he done towards removing ttie dissatisfaction now existing, and would create greater contldence in ttie board. The local authorities would be in a better position to learn ir tlicir districts were receiving their quota of the fund, proportionate to the distress therein, and to see that any irregularities in distribution were rectified, or, as the case might, he, to satisfy Hie unemployed Unit they were receiving their fair share of the funds. Cr. 11. lb Caro said the information suggested was what was wanted. The whole situation needed cleaning up. Those who contributed to the fund naturally wished to know how the money was spent. •Mf l thought that any benefit would he received from the figures 1 would agree to the suggestion. However, if we do get them and criticise them wc would get no satisfaction from the hoard,’’ contended Cr. F. it. Clapham. The letter was received.
