taumarunui case. PRISONER ACQUITTED. Charges of assault with intent to Commit rape and of indecent assault were preferred against Alva Vernon McMinn (21), a married relief worker, of Taringamotu, before Mr Justice Smith and a jury, in the Supreme Court at Hamilton to-day. The accused, who was represented by Mr J. A. Gordon, of Taumarunui, pleaded not guilty. Evidence was led for the Crown showing that after a dance at .Taringamotu, near Taumarunui, on December IG, the accused overtook the girl in the case in his car and committed the alleged offence. No evidence was adduced for the defence.After about an hour’s retirement the jury returned with a verdict of not guilty and the prisoner was discharged.
