PROTEST BY WOMEN.

AUCKLAND, Tuesday. A public meeting, convened by the Auckland branch of the National Council of Women of New Zealand, was hold last evening. The fallowing motion was carried: “That this meeting of citizens of Auckland desires to express strong disapproval of the aotion of the Government in setting up the Wheat Purchase Board for the purpose of protecting the interests of a small group of wheat growers, by artificially maintaining the price of wheat, at the expense of the community in general. The results of this action will press most hardly on those least able to bear it, that is, the parents of large families in poor circumstances, to whom bread is one of the staple articles of diet. At a time of general distress such as prevails at present throughout the Dominion, it is difficult to understand the motives which actuated the Government.”
