AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. AUCKLAND, Monday. At the Domain the Auckland amateur athletic and cycle championships were decided. Two New Zealand records were equalled. A. J. Elliot registered 9 4-5 a in winning the 100, yards, while D. Kerr-Taylor did 56 4-5 s when he led the held home in the 440 yards hurdles. This was a really good performance. In the three rnilcs championship, there was a thrilling race over the last 200 yards and Cooper defeated his opponent by five yards. ' Tiie three provincial cycling titles were won by M. P. Byrnes. The cycle racing' lost some of its interest by reason of the fact that R. G. KOubister, the New Zealand Olympic representative, fell and was injured in the llrst heat of the half-mile championship. A. J. Elliot, was fully extended to beat V. R. Walker in both sprint events. There was a particularly close finish in the 220 yards championship, (lie judges giving the lille-holder the verdict. W. S. Bainbridge, who won the 440 yards championship, is also a middle-distance runner of considerable promise. The teams championship resulted in an easy win for the Technical Old Roys’ Club, with 7.'SA points. Auckland was second with 43, and University third wiLh 25. The points scored by the various teams were is follows:—Technical Old Boys, 733; Auckland, 43; Universily, 25; Wliaugarei, 19; Lynmlaie, .16; Hamilton, Jsi; Kllerslic, 6; .Mount Albert, 6; I’apaloetoe, 3; Paeroa, 1; Rotorua and Silverdule, 0. in Hie cycling events .Manukau was Hie only scorer, with 30.
