BANDS CONTEST.
OPENED AT DUNEDIN.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Saturday. The New Zealand bands contest opened at Carisbrook this afternoon witti the C grade and pipe hands quickstep. A large crowd had gathered, the day being fine. Following were the results: — Brass Bands. —St. Joseph’s Orphanage Band, 2452 points (military 106 J, musical 79), 1; Milton Brass Band, 2302 points (military 1532, musical 77), 2; Port Chalmers Band, 2202 points (military 145 2, musical 75), 3. Also competed: Geraldine Band, 2012 points. Pipe Bands. —Dunedin Highland Pipe Band, 1732 points (military 832, musical 90), 1; Christchurch Scottish Pipe Band, 1672 points (military 792, musical 88), 2; Caledonian Pipe Band of Southland, 1642 points (military 802, musical 84, 3. Also competed: Balclulha Pipe Band, 161 3-8 points; Taicri Pipe Band, 1522 points. In the evening, selections for the pipe hands and C grade brass hands were judged, Hie same bands coming forward as in the afternoon. The judge said lie disliked the choice of music generally in both brass hand events. The results were:— Brass Bands. —St. Joseph’s Orphanage Band, 136 points, l;.Port Chalmers Band, 133 points, 2; Geraldine Band, 130 poi Tits, 3. Also competed: Milton Band, 129 points.
Pipe Bands. —Taicri Pipe Band, 87 points, 1; Christchurch Scottish, 86, 2; Dunedin Highland, 85, 3. Also competed: Caledonian Pipe Band of Southland, 83; Balclutha Pipe Band, 79.
