Corbett, former heavyweight boxing champion of the world. Corbett’s death leaves seven former heavyweight champions alive. Jim Jeffries works in a Los Angeles butoher shop. Tommy Burns operates a restaurant In New’ York. Jack Johnson is teach boxing in Paris. Jess Willard is a farm labourer In Oklahoma and Jack Dempsey is promoting fights. Gene Tunney is the only one whose fortune remains with him. Max Schmeling and Jack Sharkey are preparing for their next fights. Corbett first gained prominence in 1891 when he fought a memorable 61 rounds draw with Peter Jackson at San Francisco. In 1892 he defeated J. L. Sullivan for the American championship after 21 rounds, and two years later resisted a challenge from the Englishman, Charlie Mitchell. In 1897 Corbett was knocked out in 14 rounds by Bob Fitzsimmons, and made two unsuccessful attempts to regain the title from Jim Jeffries in 1900 and 1902.

LORD LOVAT. LONDON, Feb. 19. The death has occurred of Lord Lovat, formerly Parliamentary Undersecretary, for the Dominions, Simon Joseph Fraser, Lord Lovat, chief of the Fraser clan and the 11th baron of a famous Jacobite line, was born in November, 1871. lie succeeded to the title at the age of 16, while he was at Oxford. For three years he held a commission in the Ist Life Guards. Then for the South African war he raised Lovat’s Scouts, which he commanded himself. On his return lie raised two Yeomanry regiments, which formed part of the Highland Mounted Brigade, which he led until liis retirement in 1013 with the rank of colonel. During 111 - Great War Lord Lovat served in Gallipoli, France and Flanders and was awarded llie K.C.M.G. Later in the campaign lie acted as Director of Forestry with the rank of brigadier-general. In 1920-29 he was Parliamentary Undor-Scorclary of the Dominions Office and chairman of the Overseas Settlement Committee in succession to the Earl of Clarendon. In that capacity ite visited Auckland in October, 1928. In 1910 he married a daughter of the fourth Lord ltibblesdale. His seat is Beauty Castle and he owned about 182,000 acres in Scotland.
