JUNIORS’ FINE DISPLAYS.

indications that the South Auckland Centre possesses many promising junior swimmers were in evidence on Saturday evening, when the displays of fast swimming and clever divnig provided by competitors in the junior and intermediate championship events, staged under the auspices of the Y.M.G.A. Club, augured well for the progress of the sport in the district. There was a largo gallery of spectators. F. Ilaughey swam consistently to gain the verdicts in the junior 33 1-3 yds. and f>G 2-3 yds. championships, and a third in the dive. Of the intermediates, K. Whareaitu and P. Italian shared the honours and it was in this division that the best contests of the ' evening were witnessed. Misses N. Worrell, B. Murtagh, E. Ensor and W. Pango were the most successful girl swimmers. Brilliant performances were witnessed in practically all the diving events. A fine display—the best of the evening—gave G. Torpy the intermediate title, while Miss J. Miller rendered a good display in winning the girls’ intermediate championship. The juniors also performed well. In addition to the championships several handicap and novelty events were decided.

Thornton 3; time 18 4-ss.—llaughey took the lead from the outset and won comfortably by two yards. Junior Girls 33 1-3 Yds. South Auckland Championship. —First heat: E. Ensor (Mv.) i, D.
