WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

TE UKU BRANCH. The Te Uku Women’s Institute held their meeting on Thursday afternoon, When Mrs Stlcock presided over a very good attendance of members and visitors. Three new members were enrolled. Miss Wilson was elected to attend the committee meeting of the Raglan Women’s Institute regarding the old settlers’ reunion.' Stewards were appointed for the show which is to be held next month. Pewter demonstrations were given by Mesdames Featherstonhaugh and Dodd. The roll-call “ Limericks ” was clever and very amusing. A very jolly guessing competition arranged by Miss Featherstonhaugh was won by Mrs Reed.. Roll of honour competitions resulted: Bowl of flowers, Mrs Dent 1, Mrs Featherstonhaugh 2; dainty bedroom novel tv, Mrs Dent t, Miss Fealherstonhaugh' 2. The potato growing compel i lion was won by Mrs silcock, Miss Wilson being second. Proceeds from the sales table were donated to the Waikato Federation. A delicious afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Wallis, Checkley, Ormiston and Miss Ormiston.

HOROTiU. A meeting of the Women’s Institute was held at the Horotiu hall on Friday, February 10. The president, Mrs W. Martin, presided over a fair attendance. The roll call, “How I like to spend a rainy day,” went to show that there are some keen needle women in our institute. In the compeltion for the best hand-made article not to cost more than one shilling; some very useful gifts and novelties were presented. A demonstration on “Passe Partout” was given by Mrs R. Toulson, for which she was acoorded a vote of thanks.

It was decided that the institute 1 should have a visitors’ book, and the | care of this was given into the | capable hands of Mrs A. E. Hall. The | hostesses for the afternoon were Mes- p dames Brown. Law, Martin and S Preeoe. The afternoon closed with |< -the singing of the National Anthem.
