£40,000 CLAIM SEQUEL.

MOVE TO ARREST MIBB DIETRICH. (From a New Yo-k correspondent.) Do 'Miss Marlene Dietrich, the film star, and Mr von Sternberg, her famour producer, propose to make Aims in Germany? This question is worrying the Paramount Corporation, as they carry their claim for £40,000 damages against Miss Dietrich, for alleged breach of contract, to ‘the Los Angeles courts. Mr von Sternberg, whose contract with the company expired in December, is thought to be on his way to Berlin. Miss Dietrich’s husband, Mr Rudolf Sieber, is in Hollywood on holiday, and the’ Paramount directors fear that she will depart with him, leaving on their hands an unfinished film, “Song ef Songs.” The company obtained from Federal Judge McCormick an injunction restraining her from acting with another company, but the judge has refused to grant a plea for her civil arrest to prevent her from leaving the country. This denial, however, will be heard again before another Judge on Monday. Film Star’s Reply. In support of their plea for Miss Dietrich’s arrest, the company filed a copy of conversations with Mr von Sternberg’s secretary, Miss 'Eleanor McGeary, to the effect that Miss Dietrich and the director planned to make films in Germany. ■The film star’s reply to these allegations is that the Paramount Corporation suspended her £BOO-&-week salary last month, therefore making her contract void. The company’s argument is that Miss Dietrich’s salary was suspended after oral and written instructions had failed to bring her to the studio to confer on the new film with Mr Rouben Mamoulin, wlvo has succeeded Mr von Sternberg as producer.
