WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

AT MOTOMAOHO. A meeting of the Women's Institute was held in the hall on the 15th Instant, with Mrs Sang presiding. A demonstration was given in organdlo work by Miss Were. Mrs Horniblow gave a demonstration in moccasin making. Both were thoroughly appreciated, and the demonstrators were accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Songs were rendered by Miss A. Ferguson. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames W. Stark, S. Harris, W. Smith and S. Ferguson. FAIRFIELD BRANCH. At the February meeting of the Fairfield Women’s Institute Mrs Chapman presided over a fair attendance. Several new members were enrolled. A demonstration on the making of various kinds of rugs was given by Mrs Fow (Gordonton), and was much appreciated by all. 'Mrs Fow was heartily thanked. Home made sweets was the ci&p petition for the month, being woa Iry 'Miss MoMilten, and Mrs Lovett, second. The roll-call for the month, "A useful hint on preserving,” brought forth many and varied helpful replies. Elocutionary items rendered by Mrs Linder caused a deal of amusement. A vote of sympathy was passed with Mrs Norman, and also with Mrs Marx, and with Mrs Shepherd. Afternoon tea was daintily served by the hostesses, Mesdames Desmond, Waite, and McKinnon.

MATAMATA.

The February meeting was held on Tuesday in the grounds at the residence of Mrs K. Buchanan, Tower Road, the meeting taking the form of a garden party, after business was dealt with. Mrs W. Stevens, vice-president, presided, and welcomed Mrs Bell, the president, who was present after a serious illness. Mesdames Flower, Loveridge, Dobson, Lcadbeater, Stone, and Crowther, were appointed to take charge of arrangements for a stall at the Waikato Winter Show. Mesdames West, Abernethy, Ebbelt, and Bersconi were elected members. Mrs Hampton was appointed to represent the Institute at the public meeting re relief of distress. A new three months’ programme was adopted. 'Mrs Flower was thanked for her splendid work as acting-secretary. Mrs Hampton expressed the regret of the meeting at the near departure of Mesdames R. Stevens and Cotter!!!, •two foundation members, whose work for, and hospitality to the institute had been so much appreciated. Musical honours were accorded them. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames K. Buohanan, Stevens, J. Montague, Flower and Schofield. A competition, best piece of needlework, was won by Mrs R. Hawes. Tennis, clook golf, croquet, and ping pong were indulged in and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the gathering in the •beautiful grounds in perfect weather.

AT TE AROMA,

Mrs J. Ilamtyn presided at the monthly meeting of the Te Aroha branch of the Women’s Institute. Mr G. G. Desmond, of Cheltenham, England, gave an interesting address on "Money.” and the wish was expressed that he would be able to give another address before returning to England. The roll call, "How I spent my holidays," was well responded to. The hostesses for the evening we-e Mesdames Devarell, Hamlyn, Hassell and McGirr.
