DOMINION CONFERENCE. OPENING OF BUSINESS. AUCKLAND, Friday. The official business of the Dominion Conference of the Methodist Church was commenced yesterday at the Pitt' Street Chinch, when about 300 ministers and laymen attended. The president, the Rev. A. J. Seamer, conducted the opening proceedings. The Revs. L. C. Horwood, A. T. Kent and W. Parker, who have completed their probationary course, were received into the full ministry of the Church, iheir ordination to take place on Monday evening. ■The following were received as students for the ministry:—Messrs G. Beckingsale, I. K. Hopper, P. C. Johansen, B. McD. Tasker (for theological graining), W. R. Francis (president’s list of reserve), J. L. Mitchell and A. E. Waite (for Immediate employment on probation). The Rev. CL Leadley was designated for foreign mission work, while the Rev. C. le Binet, a missionary on furlough from the Solomon Islands, was appointed to New Zealand for the current year. The Rev. A. H. Soriven, formerly of Papua, was appointed general seoretary of the foreign mission work. Orphanage activities engaged the attention of the conference in the evening, when the Rev. Dr. Laws presided. The reports showed that about 200 children are being cared for In the homes in Auckland, Masterton and Christchurch. The financial stress of the times had accounted for a diminished revenue, although a number of substantial legacies had helped to relieve the position.
