THE TARRANT APPEAL,
SPECIAL SITTING OF COURT. AMENDING LEGISLATION. (By Telegraph.—Tre-ss Association.) WELLINGTON, Tl l ursday. Provision for the Governor-General in Council to appoint a special sitting of the Court of Appeal lo deal with urgent matter without disturbing tho fixuros that may have been already made for ordinary sittings is made in the Judicature Amendment Rill, which was introduced in tho House of Representatives and passed through all stages this afternoon. At- any special sitting the jurisdiction of the Court of •Appeal may lie exercised by any three Judges of the Supreme Court, who may he of Ilio same or of different divisions of Die Court. 'Flic Minister of Justice, Hie Hon. J. G. Colilie, explained that tho ordinary sitting's of the Court of Appeal were fixed by the Governor-General by Order-in-CounciL Fixtures could lie made for several sittings in advance. 'Flic amendment would allow the Court lo deal with the appeal of Edward Tarrant, who had been convicted of murder. Jn Ihe ordinary course of events Hie Court would not be meeting unlit March, and it was considered desirable lo have the matter disposed of before then. The, amendment had been submitted to the Chief Justice and had his approval.
