SPORT AT HOME.
BUILDING SCHEMES. BIG MONEY EXPENDITURE. \ Plans involving 'the expenditure of more than £400,000 in the development of sport are being pressed forward in London, and by the late spring or earlv summer, of next year it is hoped to see the greater part of them completed. The Arsenal F.O.’s new double-deck stand at Highbury, N., which Is being erected at a cost of £45,000, will, It Is hoped, be ready when Arsenal meet Newcastle United, the Cup holders. This will increase the accommodation of the ground to 85,000 spectators. The ground Is to be renamed Arsenal Stadium, and it will be the biggest club enclosure In the country. Expenditure on Improvements to the ground within the last few months has exoeeded £IOO,OOO. The directors of the Kempton Park Raceoourse Co. are now in close touoh with the Jockey Club and the Raoe'course Betting Control Board concerning big improvement schemes at the famous racecourse near Sunbury, Middlesex, following the recent Are which destroyed the members’ stand. It is hoped In the rebuilding scheme to plan a racecourse that will be tho last word in modernity, with a totalisator as part of the members' stand. Biggest Bathing Pool. At Wembley Stadium Mr A. J. Elvtn, the managing director, Is aiming at ’creating a groat sport and pleasure park In the acres surrounding the famous arena. Work will soon be started in turning the picturesque ornamental lake in the 'old Exhibition grounds Into a battling pool which will be the biggest of its kind in the country. An island in the centre, with a special dance floor, is part of the scheme, together with rock gardens and an open-air restaurant on the banks. There will also be flood-lit courts for playing tennis at night. Since the Greyhound Racing Association took over the control of the White City, Shepherd’s Bush, W., it has spent more than £IOO,OOO in improvements. By next summer the full plans—involving a further expenditure of £25,000 —will have matured. New turf for tho football field, a re-laid running track, Increased dressingroom cacommodatlon, and improved lighting arrangements for greyhound racing and boxing are included in the scheme, part of which has already been carried out.
