VISITOR SURPRISED.
AT SO MUCH UNEMPLOYMENT. LORD SALVESEN IN NEW ZEALAND. On a pleasure trip through New Zealand, Australia, Java and Singapore, and at present in Christchurch, are the Right lion. Lord Salvesen, P.C., K.C., LL.D., and Lady Salvesen; and Lord Salvesen told a Christchurch Sun reporter that the first week of the six weeks they will spend in the Dominion had been very pleasant. But he is surprised that there Is so muen unemployment in New Zealand. He is surprised that there Is so much unemployment, beoause so many of the people are engaged in agriculture, which does not as a rule produce much unemployment. Unemployment, however, was a common phase in every country. “There is a slight Improvement at Home,” he said, speaking of conditions generally. “When wo get the preferences working I look forward to increased trade with the Dominions at I lie expense of America and some other countries. But the times seem to he extremely difficult. Still it is a hopeful sign that the price of butter is rising a little. “We have every confidence in the Government doing its very best. It is a great thing to have a Coalition Government, such as you have in New Zealand, where the party interests are sunk. “1 visited your Parliament and was interested lo see that you seem to have modelled proceedings on those of the House of Commons.
