MEETING THE DIFFICULTIES
THE GOVERNMENT PLAN. PREMIER CONFIDENT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. “What fresh legislation will be introduced when the House meets next year?" asked Mr D. G. Sullivan (Labour—Avon) in the House of Representatives to-day. The Prime Minister the Right Hon. G. W. Forbes, said the" Government would then submit its plan for meeting the difficulties of the economic situation. A Labour member: If it can find one. In the House of Representatives today, replying to Air I. C. H. Chapman (Labour —Wellington North), the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, said that the public service classification lists would be published almost immediately. The question of annual increments would be arranged as soon as possible after that. CURRENT BUSINESS. In the House of Representatives today the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, announced the business the Government intended to complete before the adjournment of the session.
Air Forbes said besides the Bills on the order paper and before the Select Committees (which included the Local Legislation Bill and Washing-Up Bill), the following business remained to be deal with:
Supplementary Estimates Appropriation Rill; Finance Rill; New Zealand Loans Bill (a consolidating measure) ; Reserve Bank Bill (this would be/introduced and circulated, but it was not proposed to go any further with it this year) ; Small Farm Bill (this would be dealt with if possible; education Amendment Bill; Property Law Amendment Bill; Post and Telegraph Amendment Bill; and the Reformatory Institutions Bill.
Mr M. J. Savage (Labour —Auckland West) ; Will you finish all these next week or next year? Mr Forbes; I hope, with the assistance of Members of the Opposition, lo be able to finish by next Thursday night. The Prime Minister said it would be the Government’s endeavour to finish then. Mr A. M. Samuel (Government— Thames) : Will the House sit on Monday ?
Mr Forbes said it was not proposed that tlie House should sit on Monday, because there was a number of Bills still before the committees, and in addition the Government had to make final the preparation of the supplementary estimates and a number of bills during the week-end. Mr Savage: What are you doing about the Superannuation Bill?
Mr Forbes: That will bo held over till next year. Mr Forbes said It might be necessary to postpone consideration of some of the measures he had mentioned until next year.
