The first Test cricket match between England and Australia was commenced on the Sydney cricket ground to-day. Placards throughout London announce in the blackest type “the Brandman sensation.” The papers devote pages to the test match, sympathising with Australia’s ill luck. The thirteenth man to replace Bradman will be chosen by the selectors before tiic game commences, and the man selected will probably act as twelfth man, while one of the bowlers already chosen will be dropped. The English selectors decided to leave the choosing of their team until this morning.
