The long-awaited Japanese offensive in Western Manchuria opened yesterday. Several thousand well-equipped Japanese troops are operating against General Supingwen, who rebelled against Mancliukuo last September, capturing and imprisoning many Japanese officials. It is reported that the Japanese already have entered Fuliardi, 176 miles west of Harbin, The Chinese are reported to be retreating and it is feared General Supingwen may blow up the Hingan Tunnel destroying the connecting link between the Chinese Eastern Railway and the Trans-Siberian line.
